WHAT: Dooda Desert Rock Music Festival and Fundraiser
The event is being organized by our
ally, Dooda Desert Rock, a coalition of concerned Navajos working to stop the
plant. The event is a great opportunity to learn more, demonstrate opposition
to the plant, meet the people who would be affected and have some fun listening
to great music.
More than 1000 people are expected to attend.
WHEN: August 2-3, 2008 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
WHERE: Dooda Desert Rock Camp, Chaco Rio, NM
DIRECTIONS: From Gallup, take Highway 491 North. Go 70 miles (you'll see a sign that reads Sanostee, NM). Take the first right turn on road number 5092. Its a well-maintained, graded dirt road.
Go 10 miles to the DDR Camp in Chaco Rio, NM. You'll see red ribbons and signs along the 10 miles.
ACTIVITIES: Live contemporary Native American music; poetry
readings; campfire stories; and talks by Dooda Desert Rock President
Elouise Brown, tribal elders and others
FOOD: Food, including drinks and Navajo tacos, will be available for sale. Coolers are also permitted.
LODGING: Since Farmington is 2 hours away, if you're planning to
stay for both days, Dooda Desert Rock recommends you camp on site.
There is no fee for camping.
WHAT TO BRING: Dishes, cups, chairs, tents, shade, water, bug spray, sunscreen
COST: $10/day for adults. $5/day for children. Donations of supplies (water, canned food, blankets) are also appreciated.
