Letter	As a constituent, I wanted to take a moment to respectfully ask you to support important protections for New Mexico's environment during the 2008 legislative session. Efficient Use of Energy Act - Energy efficiency saves money, reduces pollution, combats global warming, creates jobs and helps boost our economy and protect low-income ratepayers. Please support a bill to require utilities to achieve a 10 percent energy savings by 2020. River Restoration Funding - Despite New Mexico's natural beauty, scenic vistas and bold, unique scenery, our rivers are threatened by sprawling development, invasive species and grazing. Please support river restoration funding needed to restore and preserve New Mexico's rivers and streams. Leave No Child Inside - New Mexico's kids are spending less and less time outside enjoying New Mexico's natural environment. Children's outdoor education programs are critical for ensuring healthy, happy children and the next generation of environmental stewards. Please support a bill that would place a 1 percent tax on video games and televisions to pay for children's outdoor education programs. Green Buildings in our Cities and Counties - Buildings are a major source of global warming pollution. Please support a bill that would ensure that any new construction or major renovations of public buildings would meet energy efficiency standards that would protect communities from high energy costs over the life of the buildings and provide significant greenhouse gas reductions for New Mexico. Rio Grande Trail Funding - Please support funding for the Rio Grande Trail, which will provide exciting new recreational activities and tourist destinations statewide, while reconnecting New Mexicans with this important cultural and ecological landmark. No Rollbacks - Protecting New Mexico's environment also means ensuring that gains from past years are not eroded. Please ensure that the Clean Cars Program, passed in November, which will reduce global warming and air pollution emissions from new vehicles sold in New Mexico, is protected by the legislature. Please also oppose tax subsidies or other support to the proposed Desert Rock coal-fired power plant near Farmington.
