Send us your pictures of the Gila!

The Gila Wilderness and Gila River offer some of New Mexican's most beautiful scenic vistas, hiking trails and recreational spots. Many of us have spent lazy weekends soaking in the hot springs or hiked through the vast wildnerness taking in glimpses of amazing scenic views or laid quietly at night listening for the call of the Mexican Gray Wolf. Unfortunately, some New Mexico decision-makers see the Gila only for what water it can provide via drainage or diversion systems.

But we know that we can help to protect the Gila River, while ensuring a water supply for future New Mexicans in the region.

Now, we're setting up an online photo gallery to Save the Gila River. We're going to send the Interstate Stream Commision a photo album with 200 pictures of us in the Gila, to drive home the important message: hands off New Mexico's last wild river.

Please contribute a photo or two to teh gallery so we have images of New Mexicans vacationing, hiking and camping on the Gila River. Taken together, the pictures are a demonstration of our opposition to diverting and draining the river, a portrait of people from all across the state coming together to protect New Mexico's last wild river.

Since so many of you have undoubtedly enjoyed exploring the Gila yourselves, please take a moment to send us one of your favorite photos.

Even if you don't have a picture of the Gila River or of yourself or your friends in the Gila Wilderness, you can still get involved. Just take one of yourself with a sign (click here to download our sample sign that you can use) telling our officials that protecting the Gila River is important to you.
