Victory: Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks protected as national monument

President Obama permanently protected the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks outside Las Cruces by designating them a national monument. Protecting nearly a half million acres, this is the largest monument the Obama administration has declared thus far. Now, mountain lions, pronghorn antelope and peregrine falcon will have protected habitat, while New Mexicans will have beautiful places for hiking and other recreational adventures long into the future.

No New Dirty Power Plants under EPA standard

Albuquerque, NM – On the heels of another summer of scorching wildfires and drought in New Mexico, the third largest wildfire in California history and devastating, record-breaking floods in Colorado, the Obama administration proposed a major new rule today to curb the carbon pollution spewing from power plants that fuels global warming. Scientists warn that without major reductions in carbon pollution, extreme weather will become even more frequent and severe.
