Heat is rising in New Mexico
In 2006, Albuquerque’s
temperature was 1.4°F higher than the historical average, according to
a new report released by Environment New Mexico Research & Policy
Center, “Feeling the Heat.” The group said this warmer-than-normal
weather is indicative of what New Mexico can expect with continued
global warming.
To avoid the worst consequences of a warming
planet, the U.S. must cut global warming emissions by at least 15-20
percent by 2020 and by 80 percent by 2050.
“The heat is on
Congress to take action to curb global warming,” stated Lauren Ketcham,
Environment New Mexico advocate. “We’re calling on our senators and
representatives to support the Safe Climate Act and the Global Warming
Pollution Reduction Act.”
