Victory! Clean cars approved
On Nov. 27, the
Albuquerque-Bernalillo Air Quality Control Board and Environmental
Improvement Board voted to adopt clean car standards to reduce air
pollution and global warming emissions from new cars, trucks and SUVs.
The
decision comes after more than a year of advocacy from Environment New
Mexico. With the help of our members and supporters, our staff produced
research on the benefits of clean cars, drew media attention to the
issue, and helped to deliver more than 2,000 public comments in support
of the program.
“This decision is a major victory for New
Mexico,” said Environment New Mexico Advocate Lauren Ketcham. “We
applaud members of both boards for adopting standards that will cut
global warming pollution and save us money at the pump.”
